Eggs, New Life, and Our Creative, and Now Accountable, Lucy

Lucy has a special zest for life. She is full of questions, and must have remembered when we taught her that any girl is born with more eggs than she'll ever need. Then, HJ, the MMM, and the boys brought us girls tulips with Baby's Breath for Valentine's Day: the girls (wow, we have girlS) each got a tulip, and I received one for each of my children. Upon looking over all of our flowers vased on the table, Lucy pronounced, "The tulips are for all of us, and the Baby's Breath are for all of the eggs inside us." Now, that's an eternal perspective on our potential.

Recently, at our Primary Talent Show, she had a table display on parakeets. We got away with bringing her two parakeets into the cultural hall (caged) and set out an illustration she had recently drawn and a display card which read, "Ask me anything." She may have gotten a few questions about her birds, but really, she is a walking parakeet encyclopedia. She absolutely loves watching parakeet videos, especially ones that show parakeets laying eggs and the baby birds hatching and growing.

I never want to forget watching Lucy creating her drawings of parakeets. She set her parakeet Skyler on the table on his play station as a model. She was determined to create as many parakeets as she could for her pet store in the window before chore and dinner time, but Prince Hal sidled up next to her. We tried to placate him with his own paper and crayons, but soon he began to tease as only he can. He began taking the crayons she had reserved for her own use to the side. She would take one back, only to have another snatched up. Then, he would hold a crayon over her drawing, threatening to draw on it. I tried to distract him by drawing him birds and bringing him juice, but that didn't help. As he was sipping his cup, Lucy said, "Don't sip. I can't stand the sound." He leaned in closer to her and began to suck more loudly. I am surprised she drew as many as she did. I thought they turned out wonderfully.

She regularly comes up with ideas for new things to do and create.

She notices the beauties of nature and appreciates little things with me, like our successful raising of potted nasturtiums from seeds. She even noticed, without me pointing it out, how prettily the color begins to separate into lines as the blooms age.

She recently reached the age of accountability and was baptized and confirmed by her father, surrounded by many family members and friends who love her. We are thankful to have Lucy as a part of our family and our life.

  2. She certainly is looking grown-up. I love the parakeet drawings and also how patient she was with Hal.
